All automatic Vespaโ€™s from the early ET4 in 1998 have an immobiliser, this prevents the bike being started without โ€œyourโ€ key.

Your Vespa ignition key has a chip inside which ensures only you can start your Vespa with your specific key. Even in the event someone was to cut a key, the chip inside adds another layer of security preventing the bike being started.

๐—œ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜ โ€“ If you ever need a replacement key cut, you will also need to programme the chip inside the new key before the bike will start.

Regardless of your model, you really only have 1 x ignition key you should be using to start your Vespa. We recommend having a spare cut and programmed if needed.

โ€™๐—ž๐—ฒ๐˜†๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ ๐—™๐—ผ๐—ฏ" ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€ โ€“ Note this is a specific Vespa key that can only be programmed by your dealer. To programme a new key you must have the โ€œMaster keyโ€ + Vespa with you when attending the dealer. If you are doing this prior to losing the main โ€œFobโ€ take this key as well.
Cost for a new โ€œFOBโ€ key with programming expect to pay around $300.00

If you โ€œDo Notโ€ have the โ€œREDโ€ master key you will need to opt for the new key to be โ€œClonedโ€
this is where the locksmith will copy the chip code of your old key to your new key.
