𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗛𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 ?

As you know everyone’s safety is important, it’s a requirement for all riders attending any VCL ride to carry a Hi Vis Vest at all times.

Wearing a bright-coloured helmet, clothing or even the colour of your bike is always going to be helpful to other riders & motorists in seeing you.

With so many manufacturers offering only black clothing, it makes sense to have a Hi Vis coloured vest & wet weather gear for when required.

𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
Being seen when riding is important, especially in bad weather. It is a VCL requirement that all Hi Vis vests and “wet gear jackets” be 𝗛𝗶 𝗩𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝘆𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

Your “wet pants” must have reflective silver strips regardless of the colour. Yes, it’s ok if your wet pants are not Hi VIs but be smart and think safety over dark colours.

𝗪𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗿
We don’t aim to ride in the rain but the weather can change at any time when out for the day.
If it does rain you want to take advantage of wearing clothing that will improve your visibility.
Your “wet gear” should be carried with you all year round, being prepared for a change in weather conditions will make all the difference to keeping you warm and dry.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗜 𝗩𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀

1 – 𝗥𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 – Always have your riding jacket and pants on when trying on wet weather gear. Ensure a reasonable loose fit to make it easy to get on and off.
Sit on your bike to ensure you have plenty of room to operate your controls and especially room around your crotch.

2 – 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 – Look for elastic around the wrists and adjusters to tighten any loose areas after you have put the jacket on. Ensure the jacket is long enough when seated your lower back is covered. Pockets, you can never not have enough pockets on your wet gear.

3 – 𝗪𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 – Look for a flared leg so you get on over your boots, you don’t want to be removing your shoes to get your pants on or off. Many pants offer a flare with buttons or velcro to tighten once fitted.

Look for pants that come up hi above the waist, your jacket should also be long to keep your back warm and dry. (You don’t want the builders butt showing )

4 – 𝗛𝗜 𝗩𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 – Orange or yellow are the only 2 colours accepted on any VCL ride, 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗡𝗢, so please ensure you think past looking cool over yours and everyone you ride with safety.

5 – 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽 – Look for a silver reflective strip on the front and back for jackets & around the bottom or side of the legs on pants as this offers the best reflection and is best seen when light hits it especially on overcast days or if riding at night.

Have your riding jacket on when trying on, look for a zipper on the front not velcro.
Zippers offer a more secure fit and wont come loose at higher speeds.

1 – Good quality, find one that will be resistant to the sun & wet weather.

2 – 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 “𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧”, do not purchase a “𝗩𝗘𝗦𝗧” without the silver reflective strip as these are for indoor use.
