Its Magpie Season

9 Sep by Admin

⚠️👀 It’s that time again – magpie swooping season!

Did you know that nearly all magpie swoops are performed by the male protecting their babies?

For about 6 weeks from late August to mid-October, they protect their nests from when the eggs are laid until the young birds are ready to move out.

And despite their reputation, magpie 'attacks' are relatively rare – less than 10% of male magpies swoop people, and of those that do, only a tiny minority actually make contact. Most of the time, birds will make a harmless (though often terrifying) near miss, accompanied by beak clicking.... so best to be alert, but not alarmed!
