All automatic Vespa's from the early ET4 in 1998 have an immobiliser, this prevents the bike being started without "your" key.
There are 2 types of ignitions found on Vespa ignitions. 2019 and earlier use a traditional key with later models now converting to a keyless "FOB" to start the bike.
Regardless of which you have both have a "main key" to start the bike and a "Master Key" key. The Master key on the earlier models is a red/brown key while the later model keyless has a small plastic dongle.
Both the red/brown key or dongle should be stored in a safe place, they are used only to program a new key. They should never be used when riding your Vespa.

The "Blue key" is your main key to use when riding. This will be inserted into the ignition to start the bike. The master key should be kept in a safe place and is only used to program a new key.

Note this is a specific Vespa key that can only be programmed by your dealer. To programme a new key you must have the "Master key" + Vespa with you when attending the dealer.
