All automatic Vespa's from 1998 have an immobiliser built into the ignition, this prevents the bike being started without your cut and programmed key.
There are 2 types of ignitions found on automatic Vespa ignitions.
๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐๐ - Use a traditional key inserted into ignition
๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐ง - Modern "keyless ignition" uses a "FOB" (carried in pocket)
Regardless of which automatic Vespa you have, there were 2 x keys supplied from new.

๐๐๐ข๐ง ๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐ฒ - Used for daily riding.
โ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฒ - Used only to recode a new key when supplied.
โ The Master key should be stored in a safe place and never used when daily riding.

If you need a new key to be cut, an auto locksmith can help you. Once cut, the new key will need to be programmed using your master key.

When needing a new FOB - You will need to take your Vespa, the master key and your original FOB (if not lost) to your Vespa dealer. Only your dealer can program a new FOB to your Vespa.
