All automatic Vespa's from 1998 have an immobiliser built into the ignition, this prevents the bike being started without "your" key.

There are 2 types of ignitions found on Vespa ignitions. Pre 2023 use a traditional key with later models now converting to a keyless "FOB" to start the bike.

Regardless of which model Vespa you have, 2 x keys are supplied from new.

𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐲 - Used for daily riding.

𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐊𝐞𝐲 - Used only to recode a new key when cut.

The Master key on the earlier models with a key is brown key while the later model keyless have a small plastic dongle.

Both the red/brown key or dongle should be stored in a safe place; they are only used when you need to program a new key of fob. They should never be used as the main ignition key when riding your Vespa.

'𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗯" 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀
The Keyless Vespa Fob can only be programmed by your dealer. To program a new FOB you must have the "Master key" + all other Fobs that are used to start your Vespa when attending the dealer.

When attending any VCL Compliance or Deluxe ride you will be required to have a "Spare Key or Fob" that you will exchange with your Ride Buddy.

Losing keys can be costly and inconvenient, especially when time is wasted trying to find them. 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐭𝐚𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 gives a much better chance of having them returned if they’re found.
