We carried some very precious cargo with us — from Sydney to Melbourne, across Bass Strait and around Tasmania — on our 12-day ride from Devonport to Strahan, then on to Hobart, Swansea and Launceston before boarding the Spirit of Tasmania back to Melbourne, ready for our 5-day ride home to Sydney.
When we departed Orbost in Victoria, we headed north along the Bonang Highway, also known as the Road of 1,000 Bends.
A true bucket-list ride for bikers — 105 km of winding, twisting road that challenges both rider and machine as it crosses into NSW and eventually arrives in Bombala.
Along the Bonang sits Goongerah Campground — a hidden green patch with tall trees and a gentle stream running through it. A quiet, peaceful place… the kind of place you wish was closer so you could visit more often.
Our special cargo were two memorial plaques for Libby and Paul, who both lost their battles with cancer last year.
They were meant to be on this amazing 20-day ride with us, but sadly their time to watch over us from above came sooner. 💚❤️
Goongerah Campground has become our yearly stop — the perfect place for a quiet moment to remember our friends.
After the traditional Jatz crackers, chips and roadside snacks, it was time to mount the plaques beside PX Pete, who sadly lost the same battle back in 2023.
For a little while, it felt like time had stopped in those peaceful surroundings.
Eventually it was time to finish the Bonang.
We rolled through Delegate and made our way into Bombala for the overnight stop.
Life has its own destiny for each of us. The road teaches us that nothing is guaranteed — except the bonds formed when we ride as one. 🛵💚
