Safety is a VCL priority at all times. As you know all rides are carefully organised, with routes, fuel stops, rest breaks and lunch venues planned in advance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Your RSVP is essential if you wish to attend any ride or event. Confirming your attendance helps us manage group numbers, organise venue bookings, and ensure all riders are accounted for throughout the day.
If you are unable to attend on the day, please remember to update your 𝐑𝐒𝐕𝐏 𝐭𝐨 "𝐍𝐎".
This allows all attending riders to see the change and know you will no longer be attending the ride.

Petrol Stations (servos) are used as meeting locations on most VCL rides. Allowing you the opportunity to fuel up.
If you are attending any ride where you are “NOT” meeting at a servo please ensure you have fueled up prior.
For rides exceeding 200km, a second fuel stop will always be planned to ensure riders are not left trying to make it home on an empty tank.

Checking your mirrors every 10–15 seconds helps ensure you remain aware of what is happening around you and within the ride group.
Regular mirror checks also allow riders to spot important signals from other riders, such as someone leaving their blinker "ON", or any issues developing behind you.
𝐇𝐢 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐦 "𝐎𝐍"
Please ensure your high beam is switched “ON” when riding on any VCL ride.
Using your high beam during group rides helps improve your visibility to other motorists and also assists the Lead Rider in identifying riders within the group.
𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫
All riders are allocated a position within the ride group prior to departure. If you have a preference for riding on the left or right side of the lane, please advise the lead or tail rider before the ride begins.
It is important to know who the riders directly in front of and behind you are, as these are the riders you should always be aware of and looking out for throughout the ride.
𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞
We are only as fast as our slowest rider. If you find yourself tailgating the rider in front, you are riding too close and likely travelling too fast.
Maintain a minimum gap of at least two bike lengths from the rider in front when travelling under 60km/h. At higher speeds, this distance should be doubled — or increased further when conditions require.
Keeping a safe following distance gives you more time to react, improves visibility, and helps keep the entire ride group safe and flowing smoothly.
𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜
When coming to a stop in traffic, slowly move up beside the rider in front while maintaining the staggered ride formation.
𝐃𝐎 𝐍𝐎𝐓 approach at speed or ride past the rider in front of you when stopping. You should have safely pulled up before the rider in front before moving up beside them, this will shorten the group when stopped in traffic.
When moving off again, always allow the rider in front to take off first so the staggered formation can be maintained safely and smoothly throughout the group.
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬
Our tail riders play a vital role in leading and protecting the ride group. Whenever a lane change is required, riders should wait until the tail rider is in position and holding the lane before moving across.
Riders from the rear of the group will move over first if vehicles are passing. Please do not split the group by moving in front of vehicles we are allowing to pass, unless road conditions leave no other safe option.
Working together and maintaining formation helps keep the entire group safe, organised, and flowing smoothly.
𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫
In some situations, the safest option for a lane change may require the lead rider to move ahead of the group and temporarily hold traffic to allow riders to merge safely.
When this occurs, it is important that all riders react quickly and remain in their current lane until they have passed the lead rider before changing lanes.
𝐃𝐎 𝐍𝐎𝐓 ride up from behind the lead rider in the lane they are holding during a lane change.
The lead rider is creating a safe space for the group to merge. Entering that lane from behind places both yourself and the lead rider at unnecessary risk.
𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐠𝐮𝐧 (𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫)
The Shotgun rider will become the temporary lead rider at any time the dedicated Lead Rider is no longer leading the ride or has moved to hold a lane during a merge or lane change.
When merging lanes, remain alert and continue checking your mirrors to ensure riders behind you have also had enough room to merge safely.
Maintaining awareness and allowing space for all riders to move together safely is essential to keeping the group organised and flowing smoothly.

Hi-Vis gear helps ensure the lead rider, tail rider, fellow riders, and other motorists can clearly see you within the group. Being visible is far more important than looking cool — especially when we have large numbers of riders out on the road together.
When attending any VCL ride, all riders and pillions are required to carry a Hi-Vis vest and wet weather gear at all times.
It is your choice to wear a Hi Vis Vest or Jacket on local rides, but it is mandatory for all rides over 50klm from the CBD.

We highly recommend a stand alone specialised motorcycle roadside assist. Many are way cheaper than those offered as an extra or included with your bike insurance.
Please take the time to look over the options they offer. Roadside covers you all over Australia, and includes towing, mechanical breakdown, fuel or a flat tyre.
